2022 Year 6 Student Representative Council Executive
Like this year, the SRC Executive will be completed in the first 3 weeks of term 1, 2022. Year 6 students will be offered SRC application forms in week 2. The application will be displayed for everyone to read and East Devonport Staff will be given a voting form to nominate 5 students each. The SRC will be announced and recognised in the first assembly, term 1, 2022. Class SRC will be elected and recognised in the same assembly.
Attendance
Today's attendance was 91%. This is what we would like to see everyday. In 2022 this will be a focus with more parent engagement and meetings to ensure your child is at school every day.
On Monday, the whole school was treated to wonderful performance by the Crescendo Band and Choir which are made up of students from the schools in our area. The music is a credit to the Crescendo music teachers including Dominque Baker. We are hoping that next year, East Devonport Primary School might have some students join the Crescendo Band.

A huge thank you to the Crescendo band and choir who performed for us yesterday. The Crescendo band and Choir were lead by Domi Baker (Band) and Carine Kruger (Choir) and supported by Tom and Heather. The primary students were outstanding, showing us a range of musical instruments and voices. If you have a child who is interested in learning a musical instrument or becoming a choir member please collect an expression of interest form. Crescendo is an afterschool activity.
Recently we had artwork completed and installed by the amazing Robi Glimar. Students were excited to see it installed.

Yesterday students worked with Arthur Conlan on the Early Years sealed area to update a four square court, and create some hopscotch sets. This amazing artwork was completed by the end of the day and students were able to enjoy at recess today!

In Kinder we have some more class photographer photos to share!

Please enjoy some more photos from our visit with Devonport Fire Brigade.

Kinders at play

Prep/1 AS enjoyed their mini art gallery experience observing Aboriginal artist Authur Conlon’s artwork that he so kindly shared with us. We spoke about what we noticed when looking at the artwork.
“The dolphin and the turtle pictures used the same colours” | - Zavannah |
“They are all Australian animals” | - Abigail |
“They were amazing” | - Jaylynn |
Creating artwork for the art show. Come along next week to view our finished product.
Last week the students were learning about Mass. The students had the opportunity to make their own balancing scales to weigh different objects in the classroom. The items were ‘heavy’ or ‘light’.

2-3 Scott have been developing our confidence by acting out drama skits. We have been practicing our ‘freeze frames’ where a narrator reads us a story and we act it out, freezing on certain actions!

In Mr Dolbey's for Science we made our own Floating Ball Machines trying to levitate a ping pong ball so it stays in the air. We used the top of a plastic bottle, a vending straw and our breath. We tried a pingpong ball - which didn't work. Jack figured out it was too heavy so we experimented with lighter materials and it worked! We also trialled using dry erasers and water to see what happens. We drew on our desks with the markers and added water. We were excited to see the people we had drawn lift off and float around.

We would like to extend an invitation to all of our families and friends in our East Devonport Community to view art work by our students in our Art Exhibition. The Exhibition is showcasing the work done with our art teacher and also classroom art tasks. Works will be displayed in our GP Hall from Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th. Doors are open from 2.30 - 4.00pm. Come and see the wonderful art pieces and enjoy a Christmas treat. We hope you see there.
On Friday the 10th December, the SRC Executive will be holding an acknowledgement fun session for our Early Years and Primary students. This is a way to thank all of our students on behalf of the SRC for their excellent year and their generosity in the fundraising events during the year. The Early Years will have their acknowledgement in the GP Hall between recess and lunch and the Primary classes will enjoy their session in the afternoon. Well done everyone! We hope you enjoy the music and games.
And the Winning House is......?
On Friday during our assembly, the students will find out which House will be named the winner of the House Point Challenge. Tasman, Spirit and Empress have all won a term each, so this will decide which House is the overall winner for the year. Students have been accumulating points for their House by receiving Thumbs Up Cards recognising ‘awesome’ efforts displaying one of our school values. The overall winning House this term will come together with their House Teachers and enjoy a Scavenger Hunt around the school in the afternoon on Tuesday 14 December.
Who needs toys when you have nature? A gorgeous moment last week was when many of our students enjoyed using the grass clippings to make bird nests for themselves. The students were not only using their imagination but also were using cooperation skills.

First Fleet Ships
4-5 Sherriff are making 3d ships from the first fleet.
Mount Montgomery
On Thursday 25 November we tackled Mount Montgomery. The weather was fantastic. Students pushed themselves out of their comfort zones during the day and did an amazing job. The view from the top was just spectacular.

In 5-6W we have been learning about poetry. We have all written our own limerick, haiku, shape, simile, cinquain and kenning poems. Haiku poems have 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables and the last has 5 syllables again. Here are some of our haikus.
