Premier Visit - Tas Ports Art Expo
It is with great excitement we announce that the Tasmanian Premier, the Hon Jeremy Rockliff will be at East Devonport Primary School on the 2nd of December. Mr Rockliff will be one of three judges at the TasPorts Art expo. The expo will be open to parents to visit on the same day. Premier Rockcliff, along with Mrs Anna Cullis, (School Association president) and Mr Sam Wilson Haffenden, (Project Director, Major Projects TasPorts), will select a first, second and third winners for each grade. At the 1:40 assembly (in the gymnasium), Mr Rockliff will announce the winners. All prizes are sponsored by TasPorts.

Children's University
Congratulations to the 24 students who graduated at this year’s University of Tasmania Children’s University. They looked fabulous in their gowns and hats, as they walked through the hallways, dropping into their classrooms, to show their teacher their gowns. A huge thank you and acknowledgement to Mrs Karen Whish-Wilson, to Ma (Mrs Debbie Miller) and Mr Jesse Brennan, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to support all students. A special thank you to Mr Brennan for the passports, which are supplied to the students.
Crescendo Band/Choir
Yesterday, in our Assembly, we were privileged to have the Crescendo Band play for us, including our own Natte (Year 4) on trombone. Also, the choir performed with our own Bella (Year 3). We are extremely proud of both students and congratulate them on their commitment to the Crescendo Band/Choir. Thank you, Mrs Dominique Baker, for again bringing the Crescendo band/choir to our school. We thoroughly enjoyed the performances. If you have a child/ren who are interested, please contact the office and we will pass your details to Mrs Baker or our own Mrs Dana Sallese (Psychologist).
External School review
Last week East Devonport Primary School completed the School Review. I was extremely proud of the powerful statements from this process. The key message was to continue to do the work we are doing as we are on the right track with regards to student learning. I wish to thank all the students, staff and parents who participated in the process.
2023 Kinder Orientation Sessions
We are looking forward to seeing our incoming Kinder students during our three Kinder orientation sessions for 2023.
Kinder Orientation Sessions: November 30, December 7 and December 14 from 1pm-2pm in the Kinder classroom
A reminder to families that end of year reports will be sent home on Friday 9 December 2022.

Attendance
Our whole school attendance is currently 85%. Whilst this is an improvement we are aiming for 90%.
Congratulations to 3-4S and 4S who celebrated 100% attendance last week!
Wellbeing
During term 3 students in Years 4-6 took part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey.
In Kinder Killick we recently harvested the broad beans we planted in the Kitchen Garden.

In Kinder we have been working on our writing skills, our maths (in games) and our imaginative play.

Paint Pouring in 6D
All students approached this challenge in a highly enthusiastic manner and with a high level of creativity resulting in some truly spectacular work.
Placing 3 tables onto our lino surface made for some confined spaces where students needed to be mindful of their foot traffic and negotiating themselves around with paints and art work in progress. I could not be more impressed and proud of their exceptional level of respect and consideration to others and the tools and equipment we were using. Well done everybody!!

This year’s Devonport Readers’ Challenge was held at Spreyton Primary School on Friday 11 November. Each school made up a team of 6 and were given a selection of books to read over the course of 2 months. On competition day each team answered a series of written questions over 5-6 rounds. There were 2 parts to this competition, (a) the written component and then (b) the creative challenge. Schools presented plays, poems and various art works with content based on any of/ or all of the competition books.
On competition day we were down 3 team members who were absent. Nevertheless, with the late inclusion of 1 new team member to assist in our creative challenge item, our team pressed on through adversity with no fuss and performed very well.

On the 11th of November members of 6C and 6D organised a Remembrance Day Assembly. Indee and Mia B laid a wreath at the flagpole, while Shani, Amelia, Mia Mc and Lola ran a short assembly.
The assembly briefly described in how World War One began and noted that by the end of the war there were over 50 countries involved in the conflict. The presenters also reminded us about the armistice that occurred on the 11th November at 11 o’clock in which the countries agreed to cease fire. As we stood for a minute silence the presenters reminded us not only to remember those who have died for us in World War one, for those how have died in other wars but for those who are currently serving and willing to defend Australia.
New Horizons Gymnastics Program
Our students have been enjoying the opportunity to participate in the program run at Devonport Gymnastics.

Our early learning program is still running this term. The last Kangaroo Kids sessions will be on Friday 9 December. We hope you can join us in the last weeks of term for lots of fun.

On Wednesday 9 November children from PreKinder went on an excursion to Ulverstone Miniature Railway where they had a train ride and then finished with a BBQ at the East Devonport Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC). What a fun day!

On Wednesday 9th November the Year 6 students went to Reece High for a taster morning. 6C enjoyed making chocolate chip biscuits, and whilst some of them made it home, much of the biscuit mixture was ‘tasted’ before the biscuits were cooked, and the cooked ones eaten before the bus arrived.

It was a sad day on Tuesday 15th November as we said farewell to Miss Stolp. Miss Stolp has been with us since the beginning of term 4, has now complete her prac and is now busy writing one of her last university assignments. Before leaving, she prepared a kahoot about herself to see who had been listening to her dropping hints about her life outside school. It turns out that Ashton was listening the best as he won his first kahoot and was very proud of it.

In 2H/P we have been reading 'The Enchanted Wood' by Enid Blyton. We have been linking chapters of the novel to our CAFÉ reading strategies each day. On our vocabulary day, we have been looking at new words from the text and discussing what they mean. Here is an example of a definition match from our collaborative task.
Last week our students travelled to the Ulverstone Show Ground to participate in the NWPSSA 3-4 Sports Expo. Students represented the school well and enjoyed themselves.

Students in Grade 5 have been using Minecraft Education to build a Colonial Settlement as part of our learning about Australian history. We will be taking screenshots of our settlements and using them as part of a photo essay to present to our class.
Children's University Graduation
On Wednesday last week 24 students from East Devonport Primary attended their Children's University Graduation at the Paranaple Arts Centre. In total their were 55 graduates, from Latrobe High School, Devonport High School, Miandetta Primary and East Devonport Primary. The combined total of hours of learning achieved by the children was 5479.

Hands on learning in mathematics? 3-4 Scott say yes!!
The new zone in our classroom helps us see and use a variety of materials that can help us solve mathematical problems!

Students have been working together to solve different Place Value jigsaw puzzles. This week students worked in small groups to solve the interactive jigsaw puzzles and timed themselves. They then recorded their time and saved their completed jigsaw into the Padlet.

Students have been reading the class novel, Mega Monster. This term, students have been working on creating a character profile from one of the characters within the story. This task involved students to use descriptive works, such as adjectives to write more interesting sentences. The below photo is some of the students work on display.

Our last Book Club for 2022 went home with students last week. Orders and correct money are due to the office by 3pm Thursday 1st December. You can also order online via LOOP.
