Principal's Report

Wecome to the second newsletter for term 4. What a busy start to this term with performances, excursions, orientations and visitors from both TasPort and Clarence High School Band. As you can see from the Dates to Remember the remainder of term 4 is going to be just as busy as we finish the school year.

TasPorts - November 2022, the month of our port- Port of Devonport

TasPorts talks were fantastic, with students totally engaged. Below is an ex-student who was so proud of his East Devonport Primary education, he shared with students, a photo of him at eight years of age.

Inspiring Story- Brett Taylor

Brett Taylor went to East Devonport Primary School and his mum was a teacher there too and he has been working at the Port of Devonport for 42 years.

He brought a photo of him at EDPS from age 8, wearing a tie.

Brett works with Safety and Operations in the Port and making sure the machines don’t crash into each other. He’s in charge of Operations, which means everything needs to work like clockwork. He loves his job.

Christmas Panel – Devonport

Have a look at this completed by the Year 1 students.  A huge thank you to Ms Meg Dehle (designer/parent), Natasha and Miss Kayla Simpson (Teacher).  This is going to look  fabulous in the Devonport Mall, on display for Christmas.

School Review

As part of our continuous school improvement, we will be involved in an External School Review with a Review Team. The purpose of External School Reviews is to support schools to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools.

All Tasmanian Government Schools will be externally reviewed every four years. The focus of the Review is to evaluate school performance. The Review Team consists of a Review Chair and trained Principal Peer Reviewers. The review will occur on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th of November 2022,

We will find out the aspects of the school’s improvement that have been verified through the Review processes as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future.

During this review some students, parents, School Association members and staff will be asked to provide information to the Review Team in a number of ways. These include:

  • individual interviews
  • group discussions (with students or staff or parents)
  • meetings (usually School Association, staff meeting)
  • visits into classrooms.

We appreciate your support and time in helping us with this review process.

If you would like more information, please contact the school office on 6427 8932.

State School Athletics

Congratulations to Amelia and Samara who were selected in the PSST State athlectics team. The girls travelled to Launceston on Friday to run. Amelia came 3rd in her heat and finished 10th overall and Samara came 6th in her heat and finished 13th overall. Fantastic effort from both girls.

End of year reports

A reminder to families that end of year reports will be distributed on Friday December 9.

The report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale which replaces A-E ratings for students in Prep to Year 10.

The 9-point scale shows more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.

There will be no teacher comments on the report.
