Principal Report

Last Friday East Devonport Primary School celebrated our first whole school assembly for 2023.  6W presented and set up for the assembly, which was very organsied. I was very impressed with the type of activities students presented and the work being done in class so early in the school year.  The next Assembly will be Wednesday 5th (last day of term 1 for students).  Classes presenting are listed in the calendar dates.

 TasPorts Art displays opening

TasPorts has arranged for the first, second and third prize winners of the Art competition, held in term 4, last year, to be invited to the unveiling of the Children’s artwork at the East Devonport Yacht Club. The Premier, Hon Jeremy Rockcliff will be the special guest. The ceremony will be on Monday 3rd of April, at 10am and be appropriately 30 minutes involving the students.  Then the Premier will then visit the port site and complete an inspection of the current works. Unfortunately, staff and students are not able to enter the site due to work safety requirements. Students will receive an invite letter, which will include an invitation for parents/carers to attend if they wish, by this Friday. The winning Year 6 (2022) students will also be invited. Ayden(now a Year 7 student at Reece High School) has been invited by TasPorts to speak on behalf of students involved in this project. Students will be bussed to the Yacht Cub where parents will meet us.

 NAPLAN

Tomorrow our Year 3 and 5 students will sit the first of our NAPLAN, which will be Writing.  On Thursday, students will sit NAPLAN Reading, Friday NAPLAN Language Conventions and Monday NSPLAN Numeracy.  I expect everyone sitting NAPLAN to do their very best and enjoy the experience.  NAPLAN is co-ordinated by Mrs Karen Whish-Wilson with Miss Abbie Scott (3/4S), Mrs Julie Morice (3M) and Mrs Lisa Welling (6W) who will be administrating each NAPLAN session in their classroom. Catch up of any missed NAPLAN tests due to non-attendance will occur this week and next week with Mrs Karen Whish-Wilson contacting parents.

NAPLAN has moved to term 1, starting this year. It was previously held in term 2.  The data collected from these assessments helps with our school planning and also provides us with further information in monitoring individual student progress. Parents will receive their child's results from these assessments between July and September this year.  We thank our students for their participation.

NWPSSA Carnival

Congratulations to the Year 5/6 students who represented East Devonport Primary School at the recent carnival.  Mrs Karen Whish-Wilson and Mrs Lisa Welling attended, returning at the end of the day, praising the efforts and behaviour of our students. The year 3/4 student carnival was postphoned due to weather warnings. The new carnival date is Wednesday 29th of March.

 Term 1 Reports

Prep to year 6 reports will go home on Friday 24th of March.  The term 1 report is designed to inform parents on how well their child has settled into the school year and their efforts to their learning.  The Kinder report will go home on Thursday 23rd of March.

For parents who have a child with an Education Plan, their child’s teacher will make an appointment to discuss with you about the goals and ask for your input. We request that you sign off the reports and where a parent indicates they wish for the goals to be reported on for the term 2 reports.

 Year 2 Camp

We have some very excited Year 2 students who will be on their first school camp next Monday.  A huge thank you to the parents who have paid for the camp and have completed all the forms.  The itinerary has been finalised with a updated letter sent home last week.  If you did not receive this, the office can send the letter home with your child if you let them know.  Mr Luke Dolbey (teacher), Mrs Eve Macus (AST) and Mrs Melissa Connors (First Aid) will accompany the students.   I will stay overnight and am looking forward to hearing about their first day on camp.

 Easter raffle

Reminder to drop into the office your Easter donation for our annual Easter Raffle.  Raffles tickets will be on sale soon in the courtyard near breakfast club.
